History
The first Harley-Davidson® engines rolled onto the road early in the 20th century. While these motors were primitive by modern standards, they were the first step in a legacy of excellence that continues to this day. In 1936, Harley-Davidson® produced the first Knucklehead engines, which have been the foundation on which Harley-Davidson® air cooled motors have been built, even now. In 1965 Harley-Davidson® made a huge leap forward in touring with the first Shovelhead motors which were built on the original Electra Glide® motorcycles. In the eighties Harley-Davidson® created a stir when they launched the first Evolution engines, which were the first Harley-Engines to incorporate lighter weight aluminum components. In 1999 the Twin-Cam engine appeared, providing more torque than ever before, and now it’s time for the next big thing from Harley-Davidson®: The Milwaukee-Eight™
Milwaukee-Eight™ Power
In the pursuit of the ultimate touring ride, Harley-Davidson® has put incredible effort into the development of the Milwaukee-Eight™ engine so this engine can provide the major touring power. The Milwaukee-Eight™ is made to replace the Twin-Cam engine, so Harley-Davidson® used the previous touring engine as the benchmark for excellence. The Milwaukee-Eight™ weighs in approximately the same as the Twin Cam, but the new engine clocks in at 107 cubic inches, and produces up to 10% more power, providing a superior power to weight ratio and up to 111 ft. lbs of torque. If you’re the kind of rider who always has a passenger on the back of the bike, then you’ll want to check out one of the 2017 CVO™ touring bikes, which is equipped with a boosted 114 cubic inch Milwaukee-Eight™ engine, and for those who are looking for the most powerful V-Twin on the road, you can upgrade your Milwaukee-Eight™ with a Screamin’ Eagle Stage III upgrade to bring your engine up from the stock 107 cubic inches to an impressive 117 cu-in.
Milwaukee-Eight™ Performance
Power and Performance need to go hand in hand if a bike is going to deliver a satisfying ride, so the Milwaukee-Eight™ features several design features to make this the highest performance big V-twin ever produced by Harley-Davidson®. To ensure you get the best fuel economy, and reduce emissions from the bike, Harley-Davidson® chose to use the eight valve design. To keep this big engine cool, a precision cooling system has been incorporated into the Milwaukee-Eight™ which wicks heat away from the hottest areas of the engine so efficiently that you’re sure to feel the difference at slow speeds. To ensure you’ve got the smoothest possible ride, Harley-Davidson® has included a counterbalancer in the engine design, and rubber mounts the Milwaukee-Eight™ on all of the 2017 Touring motorcycles.
