Motorcyclists want to be able to ride their bikes often and for long periods of time. But something that often curtails these rides is the level of comfort. If an hour’s ride on your bike leaves you feeling sore and in pain the next day, that’s no good! You don’t want to have to cut your rides short or ride less often because you’re trying to recover from the fatigue caused by your last adventure.

So how do you make bike riding less painful? Biggs Harley-Davidson, serving San Marcos, is your California Harley-Davidson® dealer and we want to ensure you’re having the most comfortable ride possible so you can enjoy every mile. Follow these tips to improve your ride!

Seek Out Cruise Control

Driving a car means that you have easy access to cruise control on long drives. Activate it and you can relax your foot and focus on the road ahead while maintaining a constant speed that won’t be too fast or too slow, which could otherwise cause you to get a speeding ticket or hold up traffic. But on a motorcycle, you don’t often find this option, which is a shame because it can really help you relax your muscles and ride for longer.

Touring models generally incorporate cruise control as a common feature, but other types of bikes may not have it. Some bikes may let you install an aftermarket cruise control feature, though. Look into this option and see if you can’t upgrade your current bike or simply trade it in for a touring motorcycle with cruise control if you ride long distances often enough!

Add Some Padding

Your average motorcycle seat may have some economy padding installed by the manufacturer, but there are more options available to improve the comfort of your seating. You could add an inflatable cushion that will help more evenly distribute weight, like those designed for wheelchair users. Other cushions are made from polymer, which is used in hospital beds. You can also get soft covers for whatever cushion you get like those made of sheepskin. Explore your options and see if you can’t find something that’s going to be better for hours of sitting.

Install A Windshield

The wind can really do a number on you when you’re on a motorcycle. You don’t really feel its effects when you’re in your car, but you have to ride against its full force on your bike. A windshield can deflect some of that fast-moving air around you so you aren’t straining all your muscles trying to stay upright. Windshields also help to block rain, bugs and road debris from hitting you. You can choose between installing a removable or a permanent windshield. Know that a permanent one may make storage more difficult.

Incorporate Riding Breaks

You may feel like you could ride forever when you’re on your favorite Harley-Davidson® motorcycle. But it’s important to consider your body’s needs and factor some breaks into your rides. Your mind and muscles need time to recover from the stress of riding. If you wait to rest until you’re completely exhausted, it’s going to take you longer to fully recover, so make sure you’re pulling over to take a walk, sit indoors, drink some water and get some food every few hours.

We hope these tips help you to improve your riding experience by adding some comfort! Searching for Harley-Davidson motorcycles for sale near you?
