How to Make Your Used Motorcycle Look Like New Again
Buying a used motorcycle is a great way to get a quality bike at an affordable price. But pre-owned models require some extra care and attention when it comes to keeping them in good condition. At Biggs Harley-Davidson, we’re here to make motorcycle ownership easier. That’s why we’ve created this handy guide to help you make your used motorcycle look and perform like new. If you have any questions or you want to buy a Harley® bike, reach out to our team at our location in San Marcos, California.
Clean and Polish Your Bike
Regardless of how well the previous owner took care of your used motorcycle, it could probably benefit from a thorough cleaning. You want to wash off all of the dirt, grime, dead bugs, and water spots that have collected over time. Leaving all of this on your bike creates the perfect environment for rust to form and cause damage. Washing your bike regularly will help keep it running smoothly. Plus, a sparkling clean motorcycle is much more appealing than a dirty one.
After you’re done with the cleaning, apply a protective coat of wax and polish your bike to a pristine shine. This will make your motorcycle look brand new! You just want to be careful that you don’t get polish on the seat, since this could make you slip off your bike as your ride. You can also use a tire shine on your wheels and a metal polish on the metal components to make them gleam, too.
Replace Headlights and Taillights
If your used bike came installed with standard halogen lights, they would have got dim over the years. With LED lights, you’ll get a much stronger beam and help you stay safe while riding during the night. These lights are also more durable and built to last, so they need to be replaced less often. Plus, your ride will shine even brighter every time you hit the road!
Change the Tires
If your tires are worn down with tread depth down to 1 or 2 mm, you’ll want to replace them as soon as possible. While getting the tires replaced, you can also consider getting new rims as they would be having a lot of nicks and scratches due to road debris and riding on rough terrain.
